The Best Air Purifier for Home: The Coway AP1512HH

We deal with a variety of allergy issues at home and until we grow out of them (hopefully!), we are always looking for ways to ease things for ourselves. We happened to hit the jackpot when we invested in what we read online is the best air purifier for home on the market.

We had never heard of the Coway brand to begin with but the reviews online for it pushed us to try it out and we have not been disappointed.

Our daughter struggled with a constantly stuffy nose from when she was born and as we both suffer with seasonal (actually, all year round!) allergies, we had to figure out a way to ensure that, at least at home, she was breathing in good air. After weeks of online research, we concluded that the best air purifier for home was the Coway purifier. We could only try it to be sure and we are glad that we did.

In this article, I will share a Coway air purifier review and tell you what we love about it. I will also let you in on the things about it that we wish we could change. I am going to answer the questions that people seem to ask the most online about Coway air purifiers.

Is the Coway air purifier good?

Yes, the Coway air purifier is very good. We love that it covers an average sized room. 

Can you wash the Coway HEPA filter?

No, you cannot wash the Coway HEPA filter. The HEPA filter lasts for up to a year but cannot be washed. It has to be replaced and the purifier has a sensor that is triggered to alert the owner when the filter is done and is no longer effective.

Is the Coway air purifier noisy?

At the lower 1 and 2 levels, no. However, when it is put on max, it is quite noisy. It produces white noise though. Depending on how you look at it, you might like that. The white noise is great for young kids because it masks outside sounds. It was certainly useful for us when our daughter was much younger as we never needed to purchase a separate white noise machine for her.

Is Coway air purifier good for mold?

No, the Coway air purifier is not made for getting rid of mold. Mold is handled with a dehumidifier, cleaning, painting and getting to the root cause of the problem – for example, a broken pipe or lack of air movement in a room. Even the best air purifier will not cancel out the respiratory effects of having mold build up in the home.

How long does a Coway air filter last?

There is a carbon filter which lasts for about 6 months and the HEPA filter which lasts for a year. The purifier will alert the user when it is time to change either one of the filters.

2. Our daughter’s breathing has significantly improved since we started using it. Whether this is as a direct result of the purifier or not is of course not something we can measure but it cannot be a complete coincidence

5. The light indicators on the purifier change to make it easy for you to identify when the air quality in the room has changed
6. It is more affordable than many of the air purifiers available and in many cases, is more highly reviewed than others as well. It is great value for money

3 Things we wish we could change about the purifier

This Coway air purifier review would not be complete without an account of the things that we believe to be shortcomings about our beloved air purifier:

1. Although we do now believe it to be the best air purifier for home, it is not very portable. It is not so easy to carry it from room to room if you need to
2. We occasionally struggle to get ahold of authentic, branded replacement filters for the purifier
3. The replacement filters are not exactly inexpensive
