When I had my first child, I had no idea about push presents. Sure, I probably thought to myself that I would like to reward myself in some way after each blood test or injection I had to have while I was pregnant. I did not know that expecting a gift from your partner for giving birth was something that people did. I certainly wasn’t searching for push present ideas for dad for my husband.

Having said that though, I can see why the truly supportive partners out there could do with push presents. The best push presents for dad should, of course, go to deserving dads. If you are like I was a few years ago, you are probably wondering what on earth a push present is.

Are push presents a thing?

In the past, and in some cultures and traditions, it was common for husbands to gift their wives with property, jewellery or even pure gold when they gave birth and forty days after their wives have been confined to the home after birth. It still happens today. Not necessarily forty days postpartum but certainly shortly after birth.

Yes, push presents are a thing. Men do still get their wives gifts for going through the pregnancy process. It would seem though that women are also now getting their husbands gifts postpartum.

Yes, some fathers get push presents if the mothers of their babies decide that they want to give them something. Unsurprisingly, there are many women who would roll their eyes at the idea of gifting their partners with a push present. After all, who did the pushing? However, there are some moms who find their husband’s support throughout the pregnancy and during childbirth so valuable that they decide to reward them for it. That reward might be referred to as a push present.
